Applesauce Bread

a loaf of applesauce bread sliced

I love apples, but from time to time they collect dust in the fridge. Don't get me wrong I'm not gonna let some perfectly good apples go to waste. Apples even if a little bruised are great to bake with. There just so many options like applesauce, apple crisp, or even apple pie.

For today's recipe where gonna be using applesauce with can be freshly made or bought to make some bread. Applesauce bread I find is similar to banana bread, but without the banana flavor (great for them banana haters).

  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or flavorless oil (if using oil add about 1/4 cup milk)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F then grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. Start with beating together the sugar, butter/oil (plus milk), and eggs.
  3. Lastly sift in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  4. Pour into your loaf pan (give it a good tap) and bake for 40-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
